St. John Bosco's Wyatt Davis commits to Ohio State

BELLFLOWER >> Five-star St. John Bosco offensive lineman Wyatt Davis may be a superstar name, as the consensus best offensive guard in the class of 2017. But the 6-foot-4, 310-pound stud plays a blue collar position, and has a blue collar mentality. That’s why he eschewed the bright lights and glamor of a Signing Day commitment for a quiet, toned-down announcement ceremony at his high school on Friday, in the dog days of summer. In front of a few teammates, coaches, and family members, Davis announced his commitment to Ohio State. “I don’t think there’s anything wrong with doing it on Signing Day,” said Davis. “I just know where I want to go and once I knew I figured why waste anybody’s time, let’s just do it. This way I can focus on my senior year, which will hopefully end with a ring.” Davis said what appealed to him about Urban Meyer and Ohio State wasn’t just the knowledge that the Buckeyes will likely be championship contenders for years to come. With Davis’ commitment, the Buckeyes are back to having the top-ranked recruiting class for 2017. What he was most excited about was the way that Meyer wants to help set his players up for success down the road. “He’s really big on making sure his players are ready for life after football,” Davis said, referencing weekly mentoring meetings Meyer hosts that allow football players to network with representatives of Fortune 500 companies.
