Ohio State swimmers competing in the U.S. Olympic Trials beginning Sunday won’t have trouble finding friendly faces in Omaha, Nebraska. The city will teem with Buckeyes — past, present and future — as 32 participants boast OSU connections. Only four other colleges have more athletes representing them in the week-long competition. But can Ohio State produce quality from the impressive quantity? MacDonald, attending his second trials, enters with the seventh-fastest time (1:00.51) in the 100 breaststroke and eighth-fastest in the 200 (2:11.27). The top two swimmers in each event qualify for the Rio de Janeiro Games in August. “They are probably the two favorites as having the best chance of (making) the Olympic team,” Ohio State men’s coach Bill Wadley said. “There is always a breakout person and you’re excited to see them race because there’s going to be somebody who does something special that nobody knows.
