The average FBS non-conference opponent, according to a preseason model assigning ratings to all FBS teams going into the 2016 season, has a rating of 6.57. As a standalone team rating, that would be good for 97th in the country. But the 10 teams featured here have a collective non-conference opponent average rating of 14.78 — more than twice the FBS average. Some of the teams represented here are among the best in the country. But none of them have even a 50 percent chance to go undefeated in their respective non-conference schedules.
