Men's basketball | Former Buckeye Austin Grandstaff transfers to DePaul

Former Ohio State guard Austin Grandstaff is now also a former Oklahoma guard. Today, the Texas native was officially announced as one of the newest members of the DePaul basketball program, where he will have three years of eligibility remaining after he satisfies NCAA transfer rules. Grandstaff played the first 10 games of the 2015-16 season for the Buckeyes before leaving the program because it wasn’t a good fit, he told The Dispatch at the time. He would eventually sign with Oklahoma, and the public narrative for his transfer was largely credited to Grandstaff’s infant son back in Rockwell, Texas. The Sooners’ campus is a 204-mile drive from Grandstaff’s hometown. DePaul, located in Chicago, is 949 miles from home. >> Follow BuckeyeXtra on Facebook and Twitter Grandstaff would have been eligible to play this winter for the Sooners due to his mid-season transfer from Ohio State, where he averaged 4.4 points per game. He never suited up for Oklahoma, and it emerged in mid-May that he was looking to leave his second program in five months. “We are not only adding a talented player to our roster, we are adding a quality young man that is hungry to grow and improve as a player, as a student and as a person,” DePaul coach Dave Leitao said in a statement. “We look forward to Austin joining our program later this summer and are thrilled that he chose to be a part of what we are building here at DePaul.” ajardy@dispatch.com @AdamJardy
