Joker Phillips Added to Staff

ShareTweet Today it was announced the Ohio State football team had added Joker Phillips to their coaching staff as a Quality Control assistant.  Anytime you can add a former FBS head coach and NFL positional coach to the ranks, it is a good thing. Some may remember Phillips as the head coach of Kentucky while a large portion of the fan base may simply know him as the Cleveland Browns wide receiver coach last year.  Regardless where you know the name, Phillips has a coaching background which will benefit the Buckeye football team. A former wide receiver, Phillips played collegiately at the University of Kentucky and went on to play in the NFL for the Washington Redskins.  After finishing his playing career in 1987, Phillips became a graduate assistant at Kentucky.  Phillips spent his first seven years coaching at Kentucky where he worked his way up to wide receiver coach.  Over the next seven years Phillips would make coaching stops at Cincinnati, Minnesota, Notre Dame, and South Carolina before returning to Kentucky in 2003.  During his second stint with his alma mater, Phillips would work his way up to offensive coordinator and then head coach from 2010 to 2012.  After compiling a 13-24 record as head coach, Phillips was fired by the Wildcats. Phillips would then move on to the University of Florida where he was the wide receivers coach and recruiting coordinator.  He would hold this position until 2014 when he resigned amid allegations of having impermissible contact…
