Two Buckeyes named to Butkus Award watch list


Raekwon McMillan was a finalist for the Butkus Award as a sophomore in 2015. So, it’s not a surprise that Ohio State’s middle linebacker was named to the Butkus watch list on Tuesday.However, a mild surprise was that OSU junior outside linebacker Dante Booker — who will be a first-year starter this season — joined McMillan on the watch list. The award, now in its 32nd year, is presented by the Butkus Foundation. McMillan, the 6-2, 240-pound middle linebacker from Hinesville, Ga., and Liberty County High School, was a Butkus Award finalist last season as a true sophomore and a first-team all-Big Ten Conference performer. He led the Buckeyes in tackles with 119, a total/average that ranked fourth in the conference. The 2013 national high school Butkus Award winner enters his junior campaign with 168 career tackles, 10 tackles-for-loss, four quarterback sacks, one interception, five pass break-ups and a fumble recovery. Booker is a 6-3, 233 pound strong-side linebacker from Akron, Ohio, and St. Vincent-St. Mary High School. In line to replace the graduated and drafted (fourth round pick by San Diego) Joshua Perry, Booker is a veteran of 22 games played and enters the 2016 season with 29 career tackles, 22 of them coming last…
