Ohio State football: JT Barrett, Raekwon McMillan lead charge on preseason watch lists

Judging from the preseason watch lists, the 2016 Ohio State Buckeyes will be a team to watch. Preseason watch lists are accumulated to give an early look into who are the favorites for postseason awards. Granted, 12 or more games for each player will decide who the winners are and just because someone isn’t on a preseason watch list doesn’t exempt them from candidacy as the year progresses. But based on the preseason watch lists, the Buckeyes are well thought of. Advertisement The most recent to be tapped as one to watch is quarterback J.T. Barrett, who is on the watch lists for both the Maxwell Award and the Davey O’Brien Award. The O’Brien Award goes to the top quarterback in the nation, while the Maxwell Award honors college football’s player of the year. Barrett, a junior, was a semifinalist for the O’Brien Award two years ago. He enters this season needing 13 touchdown passes for OSU’s career mark, held by Bobby Hoying (57). Additionally, his 77 touchdowns responsible for are just 11 fewer than Braxton Miller’s school record of 88. Barring any sort of injury, Barrett should easily eclipse both records this season.
