Big Ten football preseason poll: Ohio State picked to win

Gonzalez, DFP)Buy Photo Despite only returning three starters on both sides of the ball, the rebuilt Ohio State Buckeyes are the Big Ten media’s preseason pick to win the conference championship this season. A poll of sports writers from every Big Ten market, plus reporters who cover the league as a whole, netted 27 votes for OSU, 11 for Michigan and one for Iowa. The poll was conducted by the Cleveland Plain Dealer, which carried on the tradition after the Big Ten itself stopped conducting the preseason survey after the 2010 season. Detroit Free Press reporter Mark Snyder participated this year. The Plain Dealer’s poll never has correctly picked the winner. Last year, Ohio State was the preseason favorite, but Michigan State won the title. Voters picked full standings in each division, with seven points for a first-place vote down to one point for a seventh-place vote. Here are the overall predicted rankings in the divisions, with point totals and first-place votes.
