CHICAGO — Ohio State coach Urban Meyer won’t step onto the Big Ten Conference football media day stage until 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, but already his Buckeyes are the pick to win the league title. That could draw an interesting reaction from Meyer, given the fact his team suffered heavy losses to the National Football League. Ohio State returns just six starters, fewest in FBS. In a poll of 39 media who cover the league, Ohio State received 27 first-place votes. Michigan received 11. Iowa received the only other first-place vote. Iowa was the pick to win the West Division with Illinois picked sixth out of the seven teams. Top to bottom, the East predictions went like this: 1. Ohio State; 2. Michigan; 3. Michigan State; 4. Penn State; 5. Indiana; 6. Maryland; 7. Rutgers. The predicted order of finish in the West was 1. Iowa; 2. Nebraska; 3. Wisconsin; 4. Northwestern; 5. Minnesota; 6. Illinois; 7. Purdue.
