A sign posted in the boys locker room at Westerville Central High School reads “Dream Big Dreams.”Alumnus Nick Vannett has done more than that. He’s fulfilling his dreams. The 2011 Central graduate became the first former member of the Warhawks football program to be selected in the NFL draft when he was taken by the Seattle Seahawks in the third round April 29, with the 94th overall pick. After helping Ohio State University capture a national championship and developing into one of the best tight end prospects in college football, Vannett is eager to make an impact in the NFL. “I realize I’m going to step into a big man’s league, but at the same time, I can’t be scared about it,” he says. “I have to get ready for it. I don’t have time to celebrate being picked; it’s time to get to work right away. I’m just excited for the chance.” As the draft was held at the Auditorium Theatre in Chicago, Vannett watched the life-changing event on television at his Medallion Estates home in Genoa Township with his parents and a few close friends.
