Day 2 at Big Ten media days: Coaches fire back over negative recruiting flap

Things turned a little nasty Tuesday at Big Ten media days. A little negative. Ohio State coach Urban Meyer reacted strongly after being told about a Q&A from late June in the Reading (Pa.) Eagle in which Penn State coach James Franklin seemed to accuse Ohio State, Michigan, Michigan State and Notre Dame of negative recruiting. Referring to the Jerry Sandusky scandal, Franklin said: “Other schools are contacting (recruits) and telling them the NCAA is going to get involved again and impose more sanctions.” Meyer denied the charge and said: “That’s the first time I’ve heard that. I’ll address that with Coach Franklin if that is an issue. That’s a pretty strong allegation. We’ve got a great deal of respect for every school in our conference.” Michigan State coach Mark Dantonio also did not appreciate the accusation, saying: “That’s not our M.O. and that’s not how we do business.” Franklin told FoxSports.com on Tuesday that his comment was misconstrued. “I never said that any of those schools are the ones doing the negative recruiting against us,” he said. “They’re not.
