Ohio State football: Urban Meyer sees plenty of potential for 2016

CHICAGO — Quarterback J.T. Barrett was one of three players representing Ohio State at Big Ten media days Tuesday. He, Pat Elflein and Raekwon McMillan comprise exactly half of the Buckeyes’ returning starters. At almost any other school, having only six returning starters would temper expectations. Not at Ohio State. Even with most of the nucleus of teams that went 26-2 the last two years and won the 2014 College Football Playoff off to the NFL, the bar remains high for the 2016 Buckeyes. They wouldn’t have it any other way. “I don’t see it being any different,” Barrett said. “I don’t think our expectations are lower this year because people are gone.” He said that wouldn’t be fair to the players who preceded him. Nor would it go over well with Buckeyes fans. “There’s a certain standard at Ohio State,” Barrett said. “It shouldn’t change for anybody. I don’t care how many people you’ve lost. “Do you want us to tell the fans, ‘Hey, we lost some guys so I don’t know about that Big Ten championship?
