The advice Urban Meyer shares with every assistant about becoming a head coach

Outside of Nick Saban, there isn’t a coach in college football in America with a more extensive coaching tree than Urban Meyer. Starting with his time at Bowling Green, through Utah, Florida and now Ohio State, Meyer has seen everyone from Charlie Strong to Dan Mullen, Tom Herman, Kyle Whittingham and many others work under him before becoming head coaches. The newest name that can be added to that list is Chris Ash, who is currently beginning his first year as head coach at Rutgers. Ash was hired away from the Buckeyes this past winter to replace Kyle Flood, meaning that another Meyer disciple to prowl the sidelines as a head coach this fall.   It also raises an interesting question: How does Meyer do it? And more importantly, what does he tell assistants when they’re thinking about becoming a head coach.
