5-star QB Emory Jones verbally commits to Ohio State


Ohio State continued to run roughshod in college football recruiting circles as Friday the school received a verbal commitment to the Class of 2018 from quarterback Emory Jones. He is ranked by 247Sports as the nation’s No. 2 dual-threat quarterback. Jones disappointed Tennessee, his other finalist, by choosing the Buckeyes. The 6-foot-2, 190-pound Jones, the second verbal commitment to Urban Meyer for the rising junior class, was in Columbus last weekend for Friday Night Lights. A pass-first quarterback with excellent running ability, Jones was one of the top players on the field. Jones, who is from Franklin, Ga., Heard County High School, had offers from Clemson, Florida, Georgia, Miami, Michigan State, Ole Miss, Penn State, South Carolina and Virginia Tech among others. In the past, he has been quoted as admiring what former Ohio State quarterback Braxton Miller was able to accomplish in the Buckeyes’ offense. “We knew he was going to be special but we never had a quarterback with Emory’s tools,” Heard County coach Tim Barron said. “He’s a humble kid, he’s not an arrogant beat my chest kid in any way.” When Jones arrives in Columbus for the 2018 season, Ohio State will have a stocked roster…
