Buckeyes land top recruit as camp full of questions nears

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WSYX/WTTE) – The start of Ohio State fall camp is just over a week away with a lot of unknowns. The team returns only six starters from last year’s 12-1 squad, which won the Fiesta Bowl and finished fourth in both the AP and Coaches Poll’s. As for who might fill the void, it could several players who’ve never played a down of college football. More than half the Buckeyes’ scholarship players (44) have yet to make their first appearance in the scarlet and gray. However, even all those questions marks aren’t dissuading quarterback J.T. Barrett from believing the OSU will contend for the Big Then and beyond. “I don’t think we have rebuilding years at Ohio State. That’s not a thing. It shouldn’t be, especially with the guys that come in. When you come in you want to play early,” said Barret, who’s 15-2 as a starting QB since his redshirt freshman season in 2014. Over the next week, head coach Urban Meyer will have lengthy discussions with his staff, especially strength and conditioning coach Mickey Marotti — who oversees the players during the summer as part of their developmental program — as to where things stand…
