College football is on its way back, so we continue with the Today’s U Top 25 preseason rankings. We’re trotting out a new team each day. We started at No. 25 and we’ll build each day until we reach No. 1. No. 3: OHIO STATE BUCKEYES Last Season: 12-1 (7-1 Big Ten East, won 44-28 against Notre Dame in the Fiesta Bowl). Last Five Seasons: 56-11 (one national title, one conference title, four bowl games). Coach: Urban Meyer (fifth year, 50-4). Overview: There’s no question about Ohio State’s talent level. The Buckeyes had 12 NFL Draft picks, including five among the first 20 selections, but for whatever reason — rotating quarterbacks, poor overall chemistry, bad bounce of the ball — it didn’t work. Ohio State’s slim margin was yanked away in a three-point defeat against Michigan State; its College Football Playoff opportunity vanished. Ohio State is one of the nation’s few programs where a 12-1 finish — along with a smashing Fiesta Bowl victory against Notre Dame — could leave a bad taste. Player To Watch: QB J.T. Barrett.
