First guess? Alabama versus Florida State


By Joey Johnston Posted on August 29, 2016 The college football season has almost arrived — yes, we realize California already has faced Hawaii — but we’re talking about the first big weekend. Although it’s still based on theory, not results, we will offer our first crack at predicting the four teams headed for the College Football Playoff. We’ll give our best guesses each week. It’s bound to be a fluid situation — hopefully a fun one, too. Here are our current favorites for the CFP final four. No. 1: ALABAMA CRIMSON TIDE Last Season: 14-1 (7-1 SEC West, won 45-40 against Clemson in the College Football Playoff championship game). Synopsis: On paper, it looks like a transition season for the Crimson Tide, but in reality, Alabama always has standout players ready to step in, so it’s going to be another good showing. Running back Bo Scarborough looks like a capable replacement for Derrick Henry, last season’s Heisman Trophy winner. Quarterback Cooper Bateman is expected to start and will have an incredible target in wide receiver Calvin Ridley.
