Game plan for football food


The seasons are changing. It’s not that summer is fading into fall — not yet, at least. Football is back, overlapping with the end of baseball season. On Friday, the Rockets will make the University of Toledo proud when they meet up with the Red Wolves at Arkansas State University in Jonesboro. The Paladins from Furman University in Greenville, S.C., will also take on the No. 12-ranked Michigan State Spartans. Saturday brings the University of Hawaii Rainbow Warriors to Ann Arbor for a matchup against Jim Harbaugh’s No. 7 University of Michigan Wolverines. And the Bowling Green State University Falcons will head down to Columbus for the big intrastate game against the No. 6 powerhouse Ohio State Buckeyes. So, now it’s time to switch from peanuts and Cracker Jacks to football food. And whether you’re tailgating at the game or inviting folks to watch at your house, you need to offer a great spread. It’s not chilly enough yet for … well, chili. The season is just starting, after all. But we still want the hearty fare that comes with the rougher, tougher game.
