Bowl projections: Ohio State now playoff bound, but Louisville has work to do

There was a major shakeup in the College Football Playoff and New Year’s Six bowl projections this week as some of the top teams fell by the wayside. Notre Dame and Oklahoma dropped out of the playoff race with a second loss for each. Both teams have fallen out of the New Year’s Six projections as well. For Oklahoma, this could be a lesson in nonconference over-scheduling; however, I’m not sure that is the case here. The Sooners’ losses were to very good teams, but they were not competitive in those games. It feels more like Oklahoma was exposed. This schedule simply may have given us a chance to learn that fact earlier than we might have otherwise. TCU replaces Oklahoma as the projected Big 12 champion and league representative in the Sugar Bowl. The Big 12 race should be fun to watch. Any of five teams could win the league, and it wouldn’t be a surprise. Houston also suffers as the expectations plummet for the Sooners. Now an undefeated season may not be enough to make the playoff, even though Louisville still looks like a pretty formidable opponent. Those teams play in nine weeks on Nov. 17. Ohio State…
