Oklahoma football: Sooners shift goal to Big 12 trophy

By ERIC BAILEY • Tulsa World NORMAN – Oklahoma is now squarely focused on winning a Big 12 Conference championship. ¶ It isn’t the same mission that the Sooners planned before entering 2016. But losses to Houston and Ohio State have forced the program to reset its goals beginning with Saturday’s 4 p.m. contest at TCU. ¶ While OU was the preseason favorite, winning a 10th league title is far from a given. Head coach Bob Stoops said as much shortly after the 45-24 home loss to Ohio State two weeks ago. ¶ “We’ve got a lot of work to do if we’re gonna have any chance to win the Big 12,” he said before adding, “But we’ll keep a positive attitude, we’ll keep working to improve and do our best to have a better showing when we get back on the field in a couple weeks.” ¶ So what do the Sooners need to do over the next nine games? Gain momentum quickly The Sooners need to have a successful Texas two-step during his first two Big 12 contests.
