Penn State Football: How PSU can upset Ohio State

Penn State knows it faces a tall task when No.2 Ohio State comes to Beaver Stadium on Saturday under the lights at 8pm on ABC. But the Buckeyes will face a much improved Penn State team, which has recovered nicely in back-to-back wins against Minnesota and Maryland in recent weeks. After fielding an unlikely porous defense through the first four weeks (32 points per game allowed), the Nittany Lions’ defense has been solid in both wins heading into this primetime matchup. While the defense has started to come around, the constant for Penn State in 2016 has been the play of the offense. After struggling for points in head coach James Franklin’s first two years (100th in ’15 and 113th in ’14), the 2016 version has averaged almost 10 more points per game than they did in 2015 and 2014. Offensive coordinator Joe Moorhead’s up-tempo offense has coaxed more yards -and points- out for Penn State, and has led to the success of first-time starting quarterback Trace McSorley.
