Penn State Looks to Make Ohio State's Offense One-Dimensional


  COLUMBUS – Maybe Penn State just likes the feeling of a painful defeat. The Nittany Lions (4-2, 2-1 Big Ten) host No. 2 Ohio State (5-0, 3-0 Big Ten) in primetime on Saturday night. An upset in Beaver Stadium would be a huge boost for PSU, as head coach James Franklin looks to turn around the historic program. But the gameplan has to be called into question. According to junior cornerback Grant Haley, Penn State is looking to make the Buckeye offense “one-dimensional” on Saturday. “We obviously need to stop the run, the quarterback run especially,” Haley said this week. “And also running backs there, Mike Weber and Curtis Samuel, just make them beat us through the air. If we can make them one-dimensional, it makes our chances of winning more successful.” This sounds good and is probably the right thing to say, but looking at what Ohio State has done recently, especially in road night games, this seems like a faulty strategy. In mid-September, Oklahoma didn’t have the benefit of as much film, or any film of the Buckeyes against a quality opponent, and the Sooners were unable to contain the run.
