Ohio State vs. Northwestern | Dad returns home to watch son play for Wildcats

Except for the fact that a few dozen relatives and family friends will be on hand, Northwestern quarterback Clayton Thorson is treating Saturday’s game at Ohio State as a business trip.“I’ve played in a lot of historic stadiums around the Big Ten against teams with great traditions, so in one sense this is just another game for me,” said Thorson, a sophomore. “But it’s hard to approach it like just another game because it’s Ohio State and I know my family has looked forward to this day for a long time.” Thorson’s father, Chad, grew up in Columbus and was a standout linebacker and guard at Columbus Academy from 1982 to ’85. He played on the Vikings’ first playoff team in 1985 and was part of a 45-5 four-year run that culminated in a Division IV state championship in 1987. Chad Thorson went on to become a Division III All-American at Wheaton College in Illnois and played for the Birmingham Fire in the World League of American Football between training camp stints with the New York Giants and Philadelphia Eagles.
