Ozone Staff Picks: Buckeyes Finally Back in the Friendly Confines


COLUMBUS — Ohio State is 3-1 under Urban Meyer following a loss. That lone loss was to Clemson in the Orange Bowl at the end of the 2013 season. How will last week’s loss factor into the staff picks this week? Good question. Let’s find out. Tony GerdemanI am expecting a much better offensive showing for the Buckeyes this week, and not just because they gave up 40 points to Michigan State. Northwestern safety Godwin Igwebuike is heavily involved in tackling, so the Buckeyes will need to find a way to exploit his aggression. Northwestern’s defense has allowed 79, 51, and 84 yards rushing the last three weeks, but they did give up 310 yards rushing to Nebraska, who has probably the most comparable offense to OSU. They need to do more than just run the ball up the middle, however. This is a pretty good defense, which would make it a tremendous sign if the Buckeyes could get on track against them. Defensively, Ohio State is going to struggle defending the NU slot receivers, and they may give up a nice-sized run or two to Justin Jackson.
