College football: Banner year for Big Ten football

Ohio State and Michigan played college football’s game of the year last Saturday. The Buckeyes won 30-27 in two overtimes, and as a reward, Ohio State gets to put up its feet and watch two other teams play for the Big Ten championship Saturday. Wisconsin and Penn State meet in Indianapolis for the Big Ten title, hoping a spot becomes open for a second Big Ten team in the College Football Playoff. Second-ranked Ohio State already is assumed an automatic playoff participant. But heck, if Washington or Clemson lose this weekend and a spot opens for another Big Ten team, it might go to fifth-ranked Michigan. What a year for a conference that two years ago this week was scrambling.
