Gareon Conley: Ohio State Safety Malik Hooker Was The Big Ten's Best Defensive Player

Ohio State cornerback Gareon Conley played against Michigan’s Jabrill Peppers and next to the Buckeyes’ Malik Hooker this season, so he knows both players pretty well. One of those players – Peppers – was named the Big Ten’s Defensive Player of the Year. The other, Conley’s teammate, was snubbed. Conley was adamant: the voters got that wrong. “I feel like Malik, he definitely deserves that,” Conley said Tuesday when asked if Hooker should’ve been named the conference’s top defensive player. “All the work he put in from last year to this year, he changed his whole mindset and he got what he wanted.” Hooker finished the regular season with an exclamation point when he score the first touchdown of the Ohio State-Michigan game on a pick-six – his third of the season.
