Statistically speaking: Where Ohio State finished nationally, in Big Ten for 2016

The numbers back up a story that Ohio State fans already knew: On the whole, 2016 was a pretty good year for Buckeyes football. Although their season ended one game earlier than hoped in a shutout loss to eventual national champion Clemson, Ohio State stood out all season, particularly on defense. With Malik Hooker at safety, Raekwon McMillan at linebacker and Tyquan Lewis at defensive end, the Buckeyes had three first-team All-Big Ten selections. That showed in a scoring defense that ranked third in the nation, behind only Alabama and Michigan. If there’s one area that didn’t keep up statistically, though, it was the passing offense.
