COLUMBUS, Ohio — The Ohio State football team gathered around Urban Meyer on a high school field in Scottsdale, Ariz., with the Fiesta Bowl still a few days away. Meyer wanted to hammer home the point of practicing with a purpose on that late December afternoon, and he used a strange player to highlight his message. Malik Barrow, a freshman defensive tackle who came to Ohio State in the middle of a his recovery from a knee injury and didn’t play at all last season because of it, was the subject of Meyer’s ire.
