Yes, there is the man standing across the line of scrimmage, be it a cornerback, safety, or linebacker. If a receiver is going to help move the chains, then he has to beat that man to a spot where the football can find him. This race has a very unforgiving time limit, however. After all, what good does a receiver do his team if when he finally gets open, his quarterback is face down in the turf wondering what took everybody so long to get open?
