Greg Schiano stayed put and Ohio State couldn’t be more thrilled


He’s still there. After what looked like a one-season marriage of convenience, he’s still there. The Ohio State Buckeyes couldn’t be happier that Greg Schiano has remained as defensive coordinator. Schiano, of course, is wildly overqualified for the gig. After 11 seasons as the head coach at Rutgers University and two years running the NFL’s Tampa Bay Buccaneers, it was presumed that he would find his way back to a college head coaching job at some point. One day — perhaps as early as 2018 — that will happen. For now, though, Schiano fits extremely well on the staff of Urban Meyer, who had some initial doubts. First, Meyer always has been hesitant to hire close friends, because that sometimes doesn’t work out for the best. Business is business, you know.
