Bill Rabinowitz The Columbus Dispatch @brdispatch Jalyn Holmes’ alarm went off at 4:40 a.m. Thursday. The Ohio State defensive end was in the middle of a dream. Sunrise was almost two hours away, but for Holmes and his fellow Buckeyes, the offseason — such as it is — was officially over. They stretched inside the Woody Hayes Athletic Center shortly after 6 and ran to the outside practice fields for the start of preseason camp at 6:30. This is a soft opening. Players weren’t in pads. Coach Urban Meyer said at Big Ten media days in Chicago that he considers next week the true start of camp. But this was the first time all the Buckeyes had been on the field since the spring game in April. With the NCAA’s abolition of two-a-day practices, college teams have adjusted their camp schedules.
