Ohio State seniors Elijaah Goins, Zach Turnure followed unique journeys to earn scholarships

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Seniors Elijaah Goins and Zach Turnure each followed different paths that led them to walk onto Ohio State’s football team. Turnure, a linebacker from St. Louis, was a lacrosse star in high school and earned a scholarship to play for the Buckeyes’ lacrosse team. Goins, a receiver from Concord, N.C., came to Columbus with plans to become a pharmacist. But the hard life as a walk-on for both Goins and Turnure led them to a place that neither expected to be on Saturday. Following practice, Ohio State coach Urban Meyer rewarded the two special teamers by placing them both on scholarship for their senior years. “I was just as surprised as everybody out there on the field when they heard Coach Meyer,” Goins said. “He did it so subtle.
