COLUMBUS, Ohio – The home run, the 3-point shot, the bomb – in every major sport, they dig the deep ball. Coach Urban Meyer’s spread offense at Ohio State forces defenses to defend the field to the last inch. The field is 100 yards long by 53 1/3 yards wide. Breadth and length are swell, but in Meyer’s eyes, depth is the most important dimension. “I just wish we could’ve hit a couple of deep ones,” said Meyer after the Buckeyes scored the last 29 points in the season and Big Ten opener to thrash Indiana, 49-21. “But that’s OK,” Meyer added of quarterback J.T. Barrett. “He does in practice.” Against Oklahoma on Saturday night at the Horseshoe, Ohio State will need big chunks of yardage.
