Former Ohio State assistant Taver Johnson linked to current Buckeyes opening


Taver Johnson could be coming back to Ohio State. The former Buckeyes assistant has been linked to the opening on Urban Meyer’s staff left by Kerry Coombs, and Cleveland.com pointed out Monday that Johnson is listed as an assistant football coach in Ohio State’s university directory. A Cincinnati native, Johnson worked as a defensive backs coach with the Buckeyes under Jim Tressel from 2007-2011. If he came back to Columbus, he would presumably be taking Coombs’ role as the cornerbacks coach. Johnson was Temple’s defensive coordinator last season, and he has also coached at Purdue and Arkansas since leaving Ohio State. At Arkansas, Johnson served as interim head coach when Bobby Petrino resigned in 2012. Meyer is looking to fill the void of Coombs, who took a job last month with the Tennessee Titans after six years on Ohio State’s staff. Meyer has not had to fill any other coaching…
