IMPRESSED
Alabama
‘Bama rode into Arkansas for one of their “testing” SEC West matchups. Alabama ended up winning by 30, and the matchup against Georgia suddenly looks like a game-and-a-half. I can’t wait—can you?
LSU/Auburn
Great atmosphere, great, great game. This one had everything. If you haven’t watched it, then watch the highlights—we’re sure YouTube will have them. And if ANYONE’s got that monster hit on LSU quarterback Andrew Hatch, can you let me know? LSU wins, 26-21, in a classic.
Fresno State/Toledo
Fresno State won, 55-54, in double overtime. It’s one of the best reasons why sub-BCS football’s so underrated…it’s so damned exciting! Combined, the two sides put up over 1,000 yards of offense, by the way.
So, Arizona State on the road was meant to be tough, was it?
This team used to be the butt of ESPN’s jokes in 2006. Now, after the monster upset of West Virginia on Thursday night, we can truly say this: no more.
Miami
“The U” may not be back after its 43-14 shellacking of Texas A&M, but Randy Shannon’s got a bunch of good, young athletes. This team could be scary this year or the year after.
Florida
Didn’t really hit top gear and STILL crushed one of its biggest SEC rivals by 24…on the road. Suddenly, the Cocktail Party in Jacksonville’s looking like must-viewing.
DEPRESSED
Charlie Weis’ offense has got a long way to go. But don’t be surprised if the MSU game’s the only one they lose this season—well, apart from USC, of course!
Upsetter becomes upset. And now Lou Holtz can shut up about his son.
Mountaineers fans were pretty pissed that Rich Rodriguez left. Now we suspect they are even more annoyed, after their team’s stunning overtime loss at Colorado.
South Carolina
Sorry to carry on about Steve Spurrier’s offense, but seriously—who’s going to quarterback this team?
Tennessee
Phil Fulmer looking for another job in 2009 after the 30-6 home embarrassment against Florida.
Texas A&M
Mike Sherman carries on like this, and he’ll be out before you can say: “Saw Varsity’s Horns off.”
UNMOVED
Wahey! The Lions mauled Temple and Texas beat Rice! When these two “bad boys” actually play somebody, can you let me know?
Terrelle Pryor may now be the present. Having said that, the OSU defense wasn’t exactly marvellous against Troy, was it? It could be a long Big Ten season for the Buckeyes…although I expect them to win it.
Michigan State
It was a boring 60 minutes of football, which the Spartans won. I’m unmoved because I only watched 10 minutes of this game and was practically asleep.
Missouri/Texas Tech
You could really apply the Penn State/Texas rule to why I’m unmoved about these two. They played nobody and won. Did you know that the only good team all four teams have played has been Illinois?
