Ohio State-West Virginia: Lessons from the Buckeyes’ Blowout Loss
December 28, 2008
“We weren’t very good; it’s just that simple.”
In one sentence, Ohio State’s Thad Matta summed up his team’s uninspired performance Saturday in a loss to unranked West Virginia University.
The previously unbeaten Buckeyes laid a big egg on national television and in front of the home crowd at Value City Arena losing by a final score [...]
Crater will transfer
December 28, 2008
Freshman Anthony Crater is leaving the Ohio State men’s basketball team after only 10 games, frustrated with his playing time in relief of starting point guard Jeremie Simmons and the offense’s slow pace of play.
Crater did not respond to a text message seeking confirmation, but his former AAU coach, Carlos Fordham of Flint, Mich., said [...]

1) The Columbus Dispatch is reporting that Boeckman and Pryor may be used in plays together in the Fiesta Bowl. I am not sure why any source close to the program would leak such information, and I am not sure why the Dispatch reported it. Maybe the Buckeyes wanted Texas to have [...]

I had a revelation while watching the first half of the West Virginia game.
Going into the season, this was supposed to be coach Thad Matta’s deepest team. One injury has changed everything.
When he started his best offensive lineup against the Mountaineers — B.J. Mullens at center and William Buford on the wing along with Evan [...]

Third different lineup in three games
December 27, 2008
The lineup that has flowed the best on offense the past two games — with B.J. Mullens at center and William Buford on the wing — will be the starting lineup against West Virginia. The lineups just went up on the press-row video monitors a few minutes ago.
It is the third different starting lineup in [...]
Holiday hard knocks
December 27, 2008
The Buckeyes had a day off after defeating North Carolina Asheville on Monday and had to be back for an 8 p.m. practice Christmas Eve. But they started late. Jeremie Simmons was delayed returning from Chicago because of traffic, coach Thad Matta said today before practice. So they practiced till 11:30 p.m.
Santa probably got their [...]

Someone else’s take on Mullens
December 24, 2008
Ran across this good, concise scouting report on B.J. Mullens this morning. I agree with pretty much everything it says — including the last line about the odds of him leaving — but I’m not sure the writer saw Mullens’ game against UNC Asheville on Monday. Then again, I’m not sure, either, how much Mullens’ [...]
