Houston Lamar safety John Bonney’s trip to Texas for its first junior day of the year started out well. Shortly upon his arrival, the 2014 prospect was pulled to the side and taken into coach Mack Brown’s office. He sat there and talked with Brown, defensive backs coach Duane Akina and defensive ends coach Oscar Giles, who recruits Bonney’s area, and was told that the Longhorns were officially extending him an offer. The 6-foot, 175-pound Bonney, who had a dozen offers coming into Texas’ junior day, was excited about it, as were his parents.
