Coming off a tough 35-23 loss to Ohio State a week ago, the Nittany Lions travel to West Lafayette this weekend to take on a struggling Boilermakers team.
I wrote it earlier this week, but if Penn State wants its games against Nebraska and Wisconsin to be relevant this season – which it most certainly does – then it needs to win Saturday at Purdue.
The good news for the Nittany Lions is that the Boilermakers are really struggling this season, despite taking Ohio State to overtime and nearly knocking off Notre Dame earlier this year. So, in terms of teams that you’d like to take on following a tough loss at home, this Boilermakers team certainly fits the bill.
Granted, the weather in Indiana today is sloppy, so I think that some of the scoring numbers might come down a little bit for both teams. But, if you’re Penn State, getting into a defensive-minded game against a Purdue team that allowed 44 points to Minnesota a week ago wouldn’t be the worst thing in the world.
Earlier this week, I would have picked a 34-24 win for the Nits, but with the weather, I’ll drop those numbers down a bit for each. Either way, Penn State moves to 6-3 this season setting up a key trip to Lincoln next weekend.
