Ohio State Football: Wide Receiver Verlon Reed Is Leaving the Buckeyes

As first reported by Tim May of The Columbus Dispatch, backup wide receiver Verlon Reed is leaving Ohio State.

The redshirt sophomore from Marion-Franklin high school in Columbus, Ohio was part of Ohio State’s 2010 recruiting class. Reed played quarterback in high school, but was recruited mainly as an athlete and wound up with the receivers when he joined the Buckeyes.

After redshirting his freshman season, Reed had a breakout spring in 2011, which helped him earn a starting spot on Luke Fickell’s 2011 squad. He caught nine passes for 132 yards in five games of action that year before tearing his ACL in a loss to Michigan State.
