This and That

House Keeping
So, it was pointed out that we’re one of the few blogs that does not cover tOSU basketball, and it’s true. I kind of wanted to change the policy for a day so I could comment and the destruction of the University of Dayton … but I won’t. I mean it would be a fun endeavor to write a couple paragraphs about a double digit win after family, friends and co-workers came by to tell me that UD basketball was for real. But really I figure I don’t write a couple paragraphs about Ohio State beating up Youngstown State in Football so why would I do it for basketball beating UD?

Quarterbacks
So anyway, what I did want to talks about was the Quarterback position. Since we don’t get a whole lot of comments on this site I thought I would respond to the one I got on the Pryor post. And I really am just interested in starting a thoughtful dialog on the subject. But I am going to go on record again as saying that if Todd Boeckman doesn’t improve significantly next season then I don’t think he can lead Ohio State to a national title. And it pains me to say that because I think out of any starter on that team Todd Boeckman has given up the most to get there .. but that does help us win football games. He’s a solid quarterback with a strong arm, but he’s a little indecisive and pretty sedentary. LSU got pressure on him with just their front 4, leaving everyone covered. I just think that a quarterback that has a painful throwing motion but can scramble (running a sub 4.3 40 when he does) is preferable to a quarterback who is either going to gain 5 yards on a scramble or throw a 40 yard interception. I mean the Boeckman Punt didn’t hurt us in big ten play but it’s not something that is ever going to help us on a regular basis. And it happened way too often last season. And I’m not saying that Pryor should just be handed the job, he should have to earn it. But if he’s proving himself in practice and guys want to play for him … then why not? I think Ohio State has a higher ceiling with Pryor at quarterback. And if he doesn’t make it, I still think we’ll be a good team with Boeckman at Quarterback, I just don’t think we’ll be great either. Pryor just gives us a chance to be … that’s all I’m saying.

Not a happy marriage
So what has been going right for Rich Rodriguez lately? He’s getting sued by his alma mater.  He lost out on Pryor, his recruiting class wasn’t that great, and now he’s losing what quality players he had off his own squad.  I mean I don’t know much about this Boren kid, I remember that he was kind of a big deal when he was getting recruited.  So maybe he is just a discontent or whatever but it would make me wonder if I was a Michigan fan.  Not only are you losing a big Offensive Lineman with a Michigan blood line but he’s basically saying the coach you just hired doesn’t know what the program is all about.

Also
Kudos to Ohio State for scheduling an SEC opponent for one of their open spots. I just wish I wasn’t going to be middle aged when it foes down.  I’m a Herbstreit Buckeye and firmly believe that we need to play a harder non-conference schedule.  It’ll make us better and the Big Ten better.
