Koufos will start, etc.
November 11, 2008
A little of this, a little of that on what’s out there today regarding Koufos, Cook, Oden and Conley:
– Rookie Kosta Koufos will make his first NBA start in Philadelphia tonight, The Salt Lake Tribune reported after the Utah Jazz’s shootaround this morning.
“If nothing else, he deserves a chance because he’s worked hard every single day,” coach Jerry Sloan said. “There hasn’t been a day that he hasn’t worked hard in practice. Whatever drills we have him do, he gives you full effort on every one of them. Let him have a chance to play. We’re shorthanded. He’s probably as capable as anybody we could put out there right now.”
– Miami Heat coach Erik Spoelstra said after last night’s win over New Jersey that he told Daequan Cook before the season that there was no guarantee he would be in the rotation, according to the South Florida Sun-Sentinel.
Perhaps that’s one reason that Cook, besides his three-point prowess, has improved as a defender. Spoelstra also praised him last night for holding Nets star Vince Carter to nine points in the second half, according to The Palm Beach Post. Cook scored 15 points off the bench.
– Portland Trail Blazers coaches are quietly hoping that Greg Oden can go through a full practice today and return to the lineup Wednesday night against the Heat in Miami, says the team’s television play-by-play man, Mike Barrett.
– Mike Conley Jr. intercepted three Steve Nash passes in the first eight minutes of Memphis’ loss at Phoenix last night. It set the tone for a first half in which the Grizzlies, playing the second night of a road back-to-back, forced 12 Suns turnovers.
