Ohio State spoils Indiana’s Big Ten title party (The SportsXchange)

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — The wild celebration never materialized. Ohio State spoiled the final home game for three Indiana seniors and kept its hopes alive for a share of the Big Ten title. The Hoosiers were denied in their first opportunity to win the league crown outright for the first time since 1993. The No. 14 Buckeyes did it with a 67-58 win Tuesday night over second-ranked Indiana in which they led by at least six points for the last four minutes. The Buckeyes have won at least a share of the regular season title in each of the past three seasons. “We’ve got a great chance,” Ohio State forward Deshaun Thomas said. “Hopefully we can get it. We’ll root for Michigan.” Indiana, guaranteed at least a share of the title, can have it all to themselves with a victory Sunday against the Wolverines. Ohio State concludes its…

Improving Indiana looks to break through with win

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (AP) — The age-old question has arisen for Indiana’s football program: ”Are we there yet?” Three weeks ago, Indiana trailed Northwestern 27-0 in the second half, rallied to get within eight points before losing 44-29. The next week, the Hoosiers led Michigan State 27-17 at the end of the third before losing 31-27. Last week, the Hoosiers (2-4) trailed No. 7 Ohio State big before scoring two late touchdowns and losing 52-49. So, are the Hoosiers there yet? Coach Kevin Wilson’s answer is a resounding no. ”I told my kids the other day as a team, ‘Don’t start acting like my kids when they were little, and every time we were going somewhere, they say, ‘Well, when are we going to get there?”’ he said. ”My answer was, ‘We’re going to get there when we get there. We’ve got to keep going because we’re not going to win, we’re not going to get there until we get there, and we’ve got to…

Unbeaten Buckeyes seeking answers after latest win

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (AP) — Urban Meyer could look at Ohio State’s record and see perfection. He knows better. The man with two national championship rings and a resume full of winning seasons understands better than anyone that if the No. 8 Buckeyes are going to keep winning, they must figure out how to close out games. ”I have to get more involved and find out what the issues are,” the coach said after the Buckeyes’ latest great escape, a 52-49 victory at Indiana on Saturday. ”I know injuries are an issue. When you take your starting fullback and start him at inside linebacker, you have a little problem. I don’t think you can pinpoint any one thing right now. I have got to find out. I am going to increase my involvement with the defense.” Offensively, the Buckeyes look fine. Quarterback Braxton Miller delivered another masterful performance against the Hoosiers, rushing for 149 yards, scoring …

Miller leads No. 8 Buckeyes past Indiana 52-49

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (AP) — Braxton Miller had all the offensive answers for No. 8 Ohio State on Saturday night. He ran for a 67-yard touchdown. He threw TD passes of 60 and 46 yards. He set up two Carlos Hyde touchdowns and threw a 46-yard TD pass that appeared to put the game out of reach, and Corey Brown recovered an onside kick to finally help the Buckeyes escape with a 52-49 victory at Indiana. By Miller’s standards, it was just another game. He finished 13 of 24 for 211 yards with two TDs and one interception, ran 23 times for 149 yards – his third straight 100-yard game. The Buckeyes (7-0, 2-0 Big Ten) are the first ranked team with seven wins. And Ohio State needed every bit of Miller’s help on a wild night when the teams continually traded big play after big play and the Hoosiers (2-4, 0-3) rallied for 15 points in a 35-second span late in the fourth quarter. Each team turned blocked punts into touchdowns in the first half. Indiana scored on TD passes of 76 and 25 yards, a 59-yard TD run and made a field …
