With his ties to the Buckeye State, first-year Tennessee coach Butch Jones is making a concerted effort in Ohio. The Volunteers hosted a target from the state earlier this week. Outside linebacker Kyle Berger (Cleveland/Saint Ignatius) made a two-day visit to Knoxville beginning Monday after Volunteers assistant coach Mark Elder offered the 6-foot-3, 205-pound Berger in January. “It was good. The facilities were unbelievable,” Berger said.
CLEVES, Ohio — The state of Tennessee is making a move for one Watch List prospect in the Midwest. Class of 2014 receiver Dominique Booth (Indianapolis/Pike) added offers from Tennessee and Vanderbilt recently, and he made a return trip to Knoxville in January. It was his first time visiting the Volunteers under new coach Butch Jones, though. “I’ve been to Tennessee before but it was real different with the new coaching staff,” Booth said.
The official visits and in-home visits are over for ESPN 150 safety Vonn Bell (Rossville, Ga./Ridgeland). Ohio State was thought to have an early lead for the 6-foot, 190-pound defensive back, then Alabama surged ahead last fall. Over the last week however, a new frontrunner might have emerged. “Last Monday, Butch Jones and the defensive staff came to my house with Krispy Kreme and spent time with my family, and that was really good,” Bell said.
