Ducks visit Wilson, but he still plans visits

In an effort to keep ESPN 150 athlete Dontre Wilson (DeSoto, Texas/DeSoto) committed, Oregon decided to make its trip to the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex count. To quote Wilson’s father Don, “They sent in the army.” Don Wilson said seven Oregon coaches were in town to visit the electrifying running back/slot-receiver hybrid and let him know that — even without Chip Kelly on staff — he’s still one of the program’s most important commits of the 2013 class.

Ducks WR commit receiving interest

Chip Kelly’s rule of recruits not being able to visit other programs after committing to the Ducks was an issue for certain recruits and their families. That was always the case for Ducks commit Darren Carrington Jr. (San Diego/Horizon), who has expressed interest in taking official visits to other programs in recent months. With Kelly out of the picture, the four-star wide receiver is doing just that by visiting Arizona, and other programs have also been in touch.

Oregon commits plan Ohio State official

At least two Oregon commits are planning an official visit to Ohio State. With the absence of former Ducks coach Chip Kelly, whose departure for the NFL’s Philadelphia Eagles was announced Wednesday, some commits are taking a look. For ESPN 300 wide receiver Tyree Robinson and athlete Tyrell Robinson (San Diego/Lincoln) an official visit to the Buckeyes could come as soon as Jan. 25. “I just want to make sure I’m making the best decision for my family,” Tyree said.

Oregon Schedules Home-and-home Series with Ohio State for 2020 and 2021 (Yahoo! Contributor Network)

Maybe this will shut up some of those football fans who keep trying to claim Oregon never plays anyone good in nonconference games. The Ducks have a home-and-home agreement with Ohio State for the 2020 and 2021 seasons, further backing up Chip Kelly’s contention that he wants to play a BCS-quality team during the nonconference portion of each season. The first game is scheduled for September 21, 2020 in Eugene, Oregon, and the second one for September 11, 2021 in Columbus, Ohio. Oregon has been oft-criticized for playing a “soft” nonconference schedule, mostly by people who don’t actually follow the Ducks. Because if they did, they’d know that Oregon has scheduled games against the likes of Kansas State and Georgia in recent years, only to have those schools pull out of the agreements later. In fact, the Ducks were supposed to have played K-State to kick off this season, and a quick glance at the BCS Standings right now suggests …
