After signing two ESPN 150 linebackers in four-star seniors Trey Johnson (Lawrenceville, Ga./Central Gwinnett) and Mike Mitchell (Plano, Texas/Prestonwood Christian) and adding three-star Christopher Worley (Cleveland/Glenville), Ohio State certainly isn’t showing signs of letting up. With the 2014 recruiting season in full swing, the Buckeyes have come out swinging for the fence at the linebacker position. Of the 11 inside and outside linebackers offered, eight appear on the ESPN Watch List.
If Christopher Worley signs with Ohio State in two weeks and junior pledge Marcelys Jones does the same on Feb. 5, 2014, they’ll become the 19th and 20th players from Cleveland Glenville to do so since 2002. It’s a talented pipeline that really began to gush with quarterback Troy Smith. It includes a few misses, but many hits as Ted Ginn Jr. and Donte Whitner will represent the city and Ohio State in Super Bowl XLVII on Feb. 3 as members of the San Francisco 49ers.
After making an official visit to Ohio State on Friday, 3-star outside linebacker Christopher Worley committed to the Buckeyes, according to ESPN. It marks yet another addition to what has been a sterling…
Ohio State’s linebacking situation regarding the class of 2013 is no longer an issue. The defensive backfield received a nice pickup as well from the class of 2014. When outside linebacker Christopher Worley gave his yes to the school on Friday during an official visit, and cornerback Damon Webb did the same Sunday on an unofficial one, many questions were answered. Vonn Bell didn’t walk away with a commitment, but the news coming out of Columbus, Ohio wasn’t bad as the ESPN 150 safety really liked his visit and has the Buckeyes still in the mix.
Christopher Worley’s pledge Friday gives Ohio State three linebackers in a row for the 2013 class. BuckeyeNation Week in Review Commit No. 22 is on board as Christopher Worley committed on Friday from the OSU pipeline of Cleveland’s Glenville High.
Christopher Worley (Cleveland/Glenville) set the tone early as a senior in a season-opening loss to 2010 Division I state champion St. Edward. It came on a simple counter run play by the Eagles but showed just why the three-star linebacker picked up the image of a big-time player with big-time college interest. Now an Ohio State commit, what Worley showed that Saturday afternoon was what played out many times over the next 10 weeks. The St. Edward running back took the handoff, ran through a hole on the right and there stood Worley — with a bone-jarring hit that stopped the runner in his tracks.
Urban Meyer has a huge recruiting weekend ahead of him, and it’s already off to a great start. Mark Givler, recruiting analyst for BuckeyeGrove.com, is reporting that 3-star athlete (per Rivals) Christopher Worley…
Ohio State will be busy this weekend as it welcomes some top recruits for official visits. The Buckeyes will welcome in the likes of Vonn Bell, Ryan Timmons, Cornelius Elder, Shelton Gibson, Marcus Baugh, Christopher Worley, Jalin Marshall and Joey Bosa. Some top-flight juniors will be on campus on unofficial visits as well. What they can expect is something of a whirlwind weekend they’ll likely never forget as official visits don’t leave an incredible amount of downtime.
