A WR could go a long way for OSU

Two weekends ago, it looked like Ohio State might get the chance to lock up a wide receiver. Corey Smith (Akron, Ohio/East Mississippi CC), Cornelius Elder (Nashville, Tenn./Ensworth) and Shelton Gibson (Cleveland Heights, Ohio/Cleveland Heights) were on campus on official visits. Ryan Timmons (Frankfort, Ky./Franklin County) was scheduled to come as well, but backed out at the last moment. Smith is a Mississippi State commitment, but still loves the Buckeyes.

Another official visit for Corn Elder

Cornelius Elder will not take an official visit this weekend, but don’t read too much into his recruitment. He’s still considering the same finalist, but admitted that two have risen to the top. The ESPN 300 prospect was considering an official trip to nearby Vanderbilt but will instead forgo the trip. Elder has repeatedly said he doesn’t need to take an official visit to Vandy because he’s so familiar with the campus. Elder did however confirm that two schools have taken the lead for his services, Ohio State and UCLA.

What’s next for the Buckeyes in recruiting

A look at Ohio State’s recruiting weekend revealed a few things: The Buckeyes still want a wide receiver and are still in the hunt for an offensive lineman. As it sits right now, Ohio State is full as far as the 82 scholarships are concerned. That said, transfers will undoubtedly open things right back up.
