ESPN 150 DT talks Notre Dame, Ohio State

The recruitment of ESPN 150 defensive tackle Thomas Holley (Brooklyn, N.Y./Abraham Lincoln) began late, so when most juniors were making visits to Saturday games, Holley was hardly on the radar of colleges. His stock skyrocketed during the winter, but Holley, No. 85 in the nation, was only able to go to some of the local schools for visits. That began changing this summer when he took a trip to Florida to see the Gators, Hurricanes and Seminoles.

Columbus mayor makes pitch to 4-star DT

The mayor of Columbus, Ohio, had a message for four-star defensive tackle Matt Elam (Elizabethtown, Ky./John Hardin): He better be back at Ohio State soon. The No. 2 prospect in Kentucky visited the Buckeyes on Thursday, and he had an opportunity to meet mayor Michael B. Coleman. “It was cool. He said, ‘You better come or I’ll hunt you down,’ ” Elam joked. “Then he looked at his bodyguards.” The Buckeyes made quite an impression on the 6-foot-6, 350-pound interior lineman, who has the Buckeyes in his top five along with Alabama, Kentucky, Louisville and Notre Dame.

Ohio State 2014 spotlight: DT Ford

2015 DT Jacob Daniel bursts onto scene

Several players saw their recruiting stock skyrocket this spring, and no discussion of those high-fliers in California is complete without mentioning 2015 defensive tackle Jacob Daniel (Fresno, Calif./Clovis North). Daniel began his assault on the recruiting process conspicuously enough when Southern Utah extended an offer on April 18. “I remember that date because it was such a surprise,” Daniel said. “I didn’t think I’d get offers until this time next year.

2015 DT Settle loves Ohio State visit

Ohio State certainly made inroads with one big defensive line recruit out of Virginia over the weekend. The better news is the Buckeyes will get another chance to impress. Huge 2015 prospect Tim Settle (Quicksburg, Va./Stonewall Jackson) was on campus for the Columbus Nike Football Training Camp over the weekend and decided to take a visit along with ESPN 150 defensive end Da’Shawn Hand (Woodbridge, Va./Woodbridge) the day before the camp.

Ohio State offers huge Watch List DT

When juniors put up the type of numbers Poona Ford (Hilton Head, S.C./Hilton Head) registered last season, it’s hard not to notice. Few haven’t, as the 6-foot, 285-pound defensive tackle now counts over 15 offers with the latest coming from Ohio State on Wednesday. A standout for the Seahawks last season, Ford recorded 154 tackles — 44 for loss –and logged 10 sacks. And though the ESPN Watch List junior has South Carolina and Tennessee among his early favorites, he’s not considering Ohio State as a light offer.

How Ohio State Can Out-Recruit SEC Teams in 4-Star DT Chris Williams’ Top 5

The SEC is the most competitive recruiting conference in college football and that’s because most elite recruits want to play in it, but if there’s a non-SEC coach that can out-recruit the power conference, it’s Urban Meyer.
That’s good news …
