2015 4-Star Cornerback Jamel Dean Commits to Ohio State

Things are going well for Urban Meyer and No. 2 Ohio State, but after Sunday’s big news, the future is looking even brighter. The Buckeyes secured commitment No. 2 for their 2015 class when Jamel Dean, a 4-star cornerback out of Cocoa, Fla., offered his verbal pledge. Jeremy Birmingham of Eleven Warriors broke the news. Dean, a 6’1″, 180-pound standout, is rated the 16th-best cornerback and the 179th-best prospect overall by 247Sports’ composite rankings. He had offers from some of the top programs in the country, such as Florida, Miami and Mississippi State. Dean got comfortable in Columbus, Ohio, though, when he attended Meyer’s Friday Night Lights summer camp last July. “I like the environment around campus and the coaching staff,” Dean told Eleven Warriors. “They make sure their players will perform at their full potential every single rep, helping them get better for the team’s sake.” During that summer trip, Dean named Ohio State his favorite. On October 26, three months after making his first visit, he returned to take in the atmosphere of a night game when the Buckeyes hosted Penn State. According to Ari Wasserman of The Plain Dealer, Dean was blown away. It was unlike anything I have ever seen. I looked up into the stadium, and it was really big, and there wasn’t one empty seat in the entire place. I never really saw anything like that in my entire life. Dean joins 4-star prospect Eric Glover-Williams as Ohio State’s 2015 verbal…

Ohio State Football: Braxton Miller Looking to Bounce Back Against Iowa

The last time Braxton Miller was on the field, he was struggling through a three-turnover, zero-touchdown performance against Northwestern, with his coach on the sideline wondering whether to pull him in favor of backup Kenny Guiton. After using the bye week to evaluate his play and continue the recovery process from a Week 2 knee injury, Miller is looking to bounce back against the Iowa Hawkeyes this Saturday. Miller talked about that challenge in a video posted by Eleven Warriors. This is probably one of the biggest games because, coming off the bye week and that Northwestern game, you know, we’ve got to have good preparation, be focused and make sure our fundamentals are all together. Miller showed all of those qualities in his first action back from injury, piling up 281 total yards and four passing touchdowns (and no turnovers) against Wisconsin in Week 5. Against Northwestern the following week, Miller struggled, completing less than 60 percent of his passes for the first time this year while looking tentative in the run game. That tentativeness was caused by the lingering pain from his knee injury. “I wasn’t fully myself,” Miller said of the Northwestern game, via the Eleven Warriors video. “I just gotta keep getting healthy, getting treatment on the injured knee and get back to my old ways.” Miller admitted that he’s not 100 percent healthy yet, according to Marcus Hartman of Fox Sports Ohio, but the junior quarterback has been working hard to correct…

Kenny Guiton Has Been Good, but There’s No Quarterback Controversy at Ohio State

Since Braxton Miller injured his knee against San Diego State, backup quarterback Kenny Guiton has played brilliantly for the Ohio State Buckeyes. The redshirt senior has thrown for 643 yards, 12 touchdowns and two interceptions, all while completing 68 percent of his passes. In his first two starts as a quarterback, Guiton set two school records. Against Cal, he connected with Devin Smith for a 90-yard touchdown pass, the longest in school history. Against Florida A&M last Saturday, he threw six touchdown passes, shattering Ohio State’s old record before the halftime whistle blew. Despite Guiton’s historic run, there is no quarterback controversy at Ohio State. When Braxton Miller is healthy enough to return, he will be Ohio State’s starter. That’s something Urban Meyer made very clear after the Buckeyes’ 76-point rout of Florida A&M, according to Eleven Warriors. Meyer just asked if Braxton was still the No. 1 quarterback. “Yes,” was the reply. — Eleven Warriors (@11W) September 21, 2013 Exactly when Miller returns is the bigger unknown. Ari Wasserman of The Plain Dealer writes that Meyer wanted his star quarterback on the field against the Rattlers. “I wanted to play him,” Meyer said “Braxton felt like he couldn’t go. He tried really hard, we had a good week of pushing him through, but with good athletes, those (knee sprains) are tough injuries.” Miller sprained his MCL on on the first drive of Ohio State’s…

Ohio State CB Najee Murray Will Be Suspended, Not Dismissed

Ohio State sophomore cornerback Najee Murray will not be kicked off the team after all. Instead, he will be suspended indefinitely to begin the upcoming season. Sources told Eleven Warriors during the weekend that Murray had been dismissed from the team for violating team rules. However, head coach Urban Meyer cleared up the report on Sunday by saying the defender will be suspended for “a training camp issue,” according to Eric Seger of The Lantern. Murray played in six games last season as a freshman, and most of that playing time came on special teams. He finished the season with three tackles and was expected to play a similar role this year with the Buckeyes looking to improve in that area. Last season, they ranked sixth in the Big Ten in kickoff coverage and fifth in punt return coverage. This off-the-field incident is another addition to an offseason that has brought a lot of negative attention to Ohio State. Recently, running back Carlos Hyde

Ohio State Commit Terry McLaurin Is Getting the Attention He Deserves

When Terry McLaurin camped at Ohio State in early June, not too many recruiting analysts, or even the coaches, were aware of the talent he possessed. Then a 3-star prospect, McLaurin held offers from schools such as Ball State, Cincinnati, Indiana, Purdue and Toledo. The 6’0″, 190-pound wide receiver from Indianapolis was out to prove he deserved more attention, and he was determined to use the camp as his opportunity to do so. McLaurin set himself apart with an electronically timed 4.3 40-yard dash, which was the fastest time among a group of elite recruits. He didn’t earn the coveted offer, but he had Urban Meyer’s full attention, according to Eleven Warriors. “I talked to Coach Meyer after the camp today,” McLaurin said. “They didn’t offer, coach wants to get to know more about me, because he doesn’t know much, but he said he loves my speed.” Meyer also told McLaurin that he needed to work on the little things such as
