ESPN The Magazine: Making headway
Last February, Ohio State, Notre Dame and Texas A&M were missing from Recruiting Nation’s top five. But following surprise seasons, they’ll be front and center on signing day. Read the ESPN Mag story here .
Watch List RB Hood talks top five
Running back Elijah Hood (Charlotte, N.C./Charlotte Catholic) is already on a roll with offers from Clemson, Michigan, Ohio State, Notre Dame and Stanford, among others. Despite the fact it’s still early in the 2014 prospect’s recruitment, Hood said he does have a few schools that stand out. “My top five right now is not concrete, but Ohio State, Notre Dame, Clemson, North Carolina and Georgia Tech are sticking out right now,” he said. “That’s in no order, but I feel more comfortable with those schools than any other program.
Alabama wins AP national title; Ohio State Comes In 3rd
Alabama completed a national championship sweep when it was voted No. 1 in the final Associated Press poll. The Tide, ranked No. 2 heading into the postseason, clobbered the previous No. 1 team, Notre Dame, 42-14 in the 42-14 Monday in the BCS national championship game.
No. 1 Notre Dame has underdog in its DNA
SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) — The rankings say Notre Dame is No. 1 going into the BCS championship against Alabama. Plenty of folks aren’t buying it, starting with the oddsmakers who currently have the Crimson Tide as about a touchdown favorite for the Jan. 7 meeting in Miami between two of college football’s proudest programs. The Fighting Irish aren’t sweating the point spread. In fact, it’s pretty much business as usual for Notre Dame, which has a chance to become the first team since 1984 to start the season unranked and end it as national champions. ”Everybody thought everybody was better than us,” defensive tackle Louis Nix III said Monday. ”Oklahoma was better than us. USC was better than us. ”We get it. We know how everyone thinks. We’re just Notre Dame. Overrated Notre Dame. No one gives us credit for anything. Just…
Watch List TE Jeb Blazevich has top 6
Jeb Blazevich released his top six schools Tuesday. The ESPN Watch List prospect from Charlotte (N.C.) Christian said he is primarily considering Alabama, Clemson, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Ole Miss and Georgia. The junior tight end has taken visits to all of his six finalists except for Notre Dame this year. He said a trip to South Bend is in the works. Alabama has made a strong recent push for Blazevich. Crimson Tide defensive line coach Chris Rumph was at Blazevich’s school last week.
Byrne makes it official – Notre Dame (Rivals)
Notre Dame finally landed the fourth commitment in its recruiting class of 2014.
Word leaked earlier this week that four-star offensive lineman Jimmy Byrne had verbally committed to the Irish. The 6-foot-4, 280-pounder from St. Ignatius High School in Cleveland, Ohio, declined to confirm or deny that commitment.
Ohio State Football: Buckeyes Would Have Beaten Notre Dame in BCS Title Game
The Ohio State Buckeyes could beat the Notre Dame Fighting Irish in a battle of unbeaten. If not for a bowl ban, the Ohio State football program could have won its second BCS…
Notre Dame vs. Ohio State: How the Last 2 Unbeatens Match Up
One of the best aspects of a two-team championship system like college football’s is when there are two clear-cut title-worthy teams, especially if they’re both undefeated. And indeed, we have a scenario just…
Buckeyes set foundation for future
I ventured out to a couple of places in Columbus on Saturday night to watch the USC-Notre Dame game. Plenty of Ohio State fans were cheering for the Trojans, hoping that their Buckeyes…
Notre Dame No. 1, Alabama No. 2 in BCS standings
Much of the drama has been removed from the release of the BCS standings this year, as things are fairly clear. To no one’s surprise, Notre Dame, the nation’s only unbeaten, bowl-eligible FBS team, is atop the latest BCS standings released Sunday evening. Alabama is No. 2 and Georgia is No. 3, and those two will meet in the Southeastern Conference championship game next Saturday. The winner of that SEC game will no doubt be No. 2 when the final BCS standings are released next weekend and will play Notre Dame in the national championship game in Miami on Jan. 7. Notre Dame played its final regular-season game on Saturday when it beat USC 22-13, and it is virtually assured of retaining the No. 1 spot through next weekend’s games. The Irish are No. 1 in all three major polls – including the two used in the BCS ranking formula (the USA Today coaches poll and the Harris poll) – and they are No. 1 according to all six computer rankings used in the BCS formula. Florida is No. 2 according to the…
