Miller accounts for 3 TDs in Buckeyes’ spring game

CINCINNATI (AP) — Braxton Miller threw for two touchdowns and ran for another to lead the Scarlet to a 31-14 victory over the Gray on Saturday in the Ohio State spring game, played before 37,643 in the Cincinnati Bengals’ Paul Brown Stadium.

Miller shows off arm in spring game

CINCINNATI — His greatest asset was effectively removed by the black noncontact jersey and the play calls coming in from the sideline. It didn’t help that Braxton Miller didn’t have a full complement of offensive linemen in front of him, either, which would have made his dynamic legs even more useful had he really been able to turn them loose. But the Ohio State quarterback had his arm and some improved mechanics, and that was all Miller needed in leading his Scarlet team to an easy 31-14 win in the Buckeyes’ spring game on Saturday at Paul Brown Stadium.

Buckeyes close out spring under game conditions

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — So who’ll be this year’s Bam Childress? Ohio State concludes its 15 spring practices with an intrasquad scrimmage on Saturday at the Cincinnati Bengals ‘ Paul Brown Stadium, due to work being done at the Horseshoe. For the players, it’s a relief that the drudgery of several weeks of practice has finally come to an end. ”During the spring you kind of get tired of going against the same people for so long that you just finally want to take it out on somebody else, but there’s nobody else to take it out on but them,” defensive lineman Adolphus Washington said. For the coaches, the end of workouts means more time for evaluation. ”We can see how kids perform in the spotlight,” second-year coach Urban Meyer said. ”There’ll be a lot of passes in the game, especially with the (first-team offense). It’s really important to play in that environment. I hope we have…

Buckeyes to end workouts with Cincinnati trip

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — Urban Meyer still has some problem areas on his radar. His Ohio State Buckeyes, who had their 13th workout on Wednesday, close out the spring on Saturday with their annual scrimmage. There is a new wrinkle this year, with the game shifting to Paul Brown Stadium in Cincinnati because of work being done at Ohio Stadium. It’ll be a bit of a homecoming for Meyer and several of his players and coaches. Meyer is a 1986 graduate of the University of Cincinnati, while assistant Kerry Coombs was a longtime high school coach in the city. Linemen Andrew Norwell and Adolphus Washington are native sons. Meyer continues to judge the development of his defensive line, offensive right tackle and linebackers, where the Buckeyes have holes to fill.

Campers looking to SPARQ interest

It’s a good bet Ohio State coaches will be burning up cyberspace this weekend as they read all about some of the big combines that take place during President’s Day weekend. From the Core 6 Showcase on Sunday to the Best of the Midwest Combine on Monday, there will be some big names hitting camps in an effort to get noticed. It all starts Saturday in Massillon, Ohio, however, where football is considered a 365-day sport. In the shadows of a place where Paul Brown and Earle Bruce once coached the Massillon Tigers, some of the more well known athletes will file into the Paul L.

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — Don Steinberg, who helped Ohio State win its first national championship in 1942, has died. He was 90. In a release, the university said Steinberg was in hospice and died of congestive heart failure in Perry Township on Monday. The 1942 Buckeyes were 9-1 and were voted No. 1 at season’s end by The Associated Press. The team, coached by Paul Brown , featured a star-studded backfield of future Heisman Trophy winner Les Horvath, Paul Sarringhaus and Gene Fekete, whose 89-yard touchdown run that year against Pitt still ranks as the longest in school history. Steinberg, who lettered from 1941-43 and again in 1945, was an end in the Buckeyes’ single-wing attack. Following his graduation in 1946, Steinberg went on to become a surgeon.
