AP Extensive renovations to their current home will force the Cincinnati football program to take up residence in a temporary one next season, the school confirmed Monday. In a press release, UC officials announced that the Bearcats will play their entire 2014 home schedule at Paul Brown Stadium, home of the NFL’s Cincinnati Bengals. ? The school announced in late June that it would be undertaking an $85 million renovation of Nippert Stadium which would increase seating capacity from its current 35,000 to 40,000. That project will force the temporary move downtown into the stadium named in honor of the NFL coaching legend. “We’re very thankful to the Bengals and the County for being great neighbors and working with us,” UC athletic director Whit Babcock said. “I was impressed with the game day atmosphere we were able to create at PBS in 2011 and the stadium is a first-class…
On the heels of 15 spring practices that concluded with a 31-14 Scarlet team victory over the Gray team in Ohio State’s annual spring game, there are a number of developments and storylines for us to look back on as …
CINCINNATI (AP) — Braxton Miller threw for two touchdowns and ran for another to lead the Scarlet to a 31-14 victory over the Gray on Saturday in the Ohio State spring game, played before 37,643 in the Cincinnati Bengals’ Paul Brown Stadium.
CINCINNATI — His greatest asset was effectively removed by the black noncontact jersey and the play calls coming in from the sideline. It didn’t help that Braxton Miller didn’t have a full complement of offensive linemen in front of him, either, which would have made his dynamic legs even more useful had he really been able to turn them loose. But the Ohio State quarterback had his arm and some improved mechanics, and that was all Miller needed in leading his Scarlet team to an easy 31-14 win in the Buckeyes’ spring game on Saturday at Paul Brown Stadium.
COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — So who’ll be this year’s Bam Childress? Ohio State concludes its 15 spring practices with an intrasquad scrimmage on Saturday at the Cincinnati Bengals ‘ Paul Brown Stadium, due to work being done at the Horseshoe. For the players, it’s a relief that the drudgery of several weeks of practice has finally come to an end. ”During the spring you kind of get tired of going against the same people for so long that you just finally want to take it out on somebody else, but there’s nobody else to take it out on but them,” defensive lineman Adolphus Washington said. For the coaches, the end of workouts means more time for evaluation. ”We can see how kids perform in the spotlight,” second-year coach Urban Meyer said. ”There’ll be a lot of passes in the game, especially with the (first-team offense). It’s really important to play in that environment. I hope we have…
COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — Urban Meyer still has some problem areas on his radar. His Ohio State Buckeyes, who had their 13th workout on Wednesday, close out the spring on Saturday with their annual scrimmage. There is a new wrinkle this year, with the game shifting to Paul Brown Stadium in Cincinnati because of work being done at Ohio Stadium. It’ll be a bit of a homecoming for Meyer and several of his players and coaches. Meyer is a 1986 graduate of the University of Cincinnati, while assistant Kerry Coombs was a longtime high school coach in the city. Linemen Andrew Norwell and Adolphus Washington are native sons. Meyer continues to judge the development of his defensive line, offensive right tackle and linebackers, where the Buckeyes have holes to fill.
COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — Quarterback Braxton Miller took a shot to the ribs for the second time in a week but Ohio State’s Heisman Trophy candidate finished practice Tuesday and Buckeyes coach Urban Meyer said the junior was fine. The Big Ten’s player of the year in 2012 was hit on an option pitch by defensive end Noah Spence even though Miller was wearing a black (for no contact) jersey. Miller stayed down for several minutes. As backup Kenny Guiton replaced him, Miller confronted some defensive players on the sideline before being restrained by teammates. Miller was held out of three series before returning to practice in preparation for the spring game on April 13. It will be held at Cincinnati’s Paul Brown Stadium because of concrete work being done to Ohio Stadium.
It’s a good bet Ohio State coaches will be burning up cyberspace this weekend as they read all about some of the big combines that take place during President’s Day weekend. From the Core 6 Showcase on Sunday to the Best of the Midwest Combine on Monday, there will be some big names hitting camps in an effort to get noticed. It all starts Saturday in Massillon, Ohio, however, where football is considered a 365-day sport. In the shadows of a place where Paul Brown and Earle Bruce once coached the Massillon Tigers, some of the more well known athletes will file into the Paul L.
COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — Ohio State says running back Jordan Hall has been granted a medical redshirt after missing most of the 2012 season due to foot and knee injuries. Hall carried the ball in just three games last season as a senior, totaling 40 attempts for 218 yards and a touchdown.
Ohio State confirmed today what it had been talking about doing this summer: The Buckeyes will play their 2013 spring game at Paul Brown Stadium in Cincinnati. The move was prompted by some renovation work to the concrete at Ohio Stadium that will be going on in the spring. The school worked closely with the Cincinnati Bengals to make the spring game, which will be held April 13, happen on the NFL team’s home field. “We are very appreciative to be able to bring the Buckeyes into Cincinnati and closer to our fans in the southern Ohio region,” athletic director Gene Smith said in a statement.
